Dedicated to the sensual Jane Birkin, this style was developed almost by chance during a Paris to London flight in 1981. Hermès CEO, Jean-Louis Dumas
was seated next to Jane Birkin who, while trying to fit her straw bag
in the overhead locker, she accidentally tipped out all the belongings
she had inside. Jane complained with Dumas about the fact that she was
unable to find the perfect capacious yet elegant handbag. This lead to
the creation of an ultra soft black leather bag dedicated to her. Since
then the actress never parted from her bag which became a hit
sensation.

nel 1981. Jean-Louis Dumas, amministratore delegato di Hermès, era
seduto vicino a Jane Birkin che nel mettere la sua borsa di paglia nello
scomparto adibito ai bagagli ne rovesciò il contenuto. Jane si lamentò
con Dumas del fatto di non trovare una borsa capiente ed elegante che le
piacesse. Nacque così una borsa in pelle nera, morbidissima dedicata a
lei. L'attrice da allora non se ne è più separata e da quel momento è
diventata una hit.
